I didn't say writing drivers was silly. I said, as a Linux newbie but
one who has given a LOT of time of decent amount of money to try and
make this work, it is hard to believe Linux won't run a silly HP
scanner. I personally don't have a clue how to write a driver, or what
one even looks like. But I also don't want to know. Is that so bad. I
want to use my scanner and get some work done.

Didn't occur to me. Nor did I check when I bought a new mouse, or
another monitor, or keyboard, or whatever. It's not like I picked them
up at a garage sale in southern Arkansas. They are all name brand stuff
that is all over the market in practically every store.
M$ has really given this nation the fist.
