When doing a text mode install try switching consoles (CTRL-ALT-F1, 
CTRL-ALT-F2, etc) and watching for error messages. If you can spot an 
error can you let us know what it is saying and maybe we can give some 
more help?

I've only seen systems do what you describe when they had something like 
a bad i/o card or bad memory. Keep an eye open especially for any errors 
that may mention those. A few i/o errors when dealing with the cd-rom 
isn't unusual but could be a tip off that something is wrong there.

Also are you sure it isn't shutting down on purpose? I can't imagine why 
it would at that point during an install but it's possible. Maybe try 
doing a lighter install (fewer packages) and if it works add the rest 
back in from the installation cd's as needed.

> I have been trying to install RH 9 all weekend. I have a Intel Celeron 733 MHz HP Pavilion ...Have run RH 7.3/8/Mandrake 8.1 on this machine over the last 2 years without too many problems. But i am absolutely clueless about what has been happening with RH 9. I started off with trying to install using the text mode, and evrythign seems fine until I choose my packages and it starts installing the packages. And then after installing a few hundred packages, the machine shuts itself down! This happened twice in the text mode. It didnt even get to to the second CD. I had no patience left at that point the night before last and I tried one last time and chose "All packages". This time it finished installing the packages on CD 1 and everything was okay for a while with CD2 and then it happened again. The machine shut itself down completely!
