I've never had that much problem with it. Even compiling X for my first
time and setting up dual heads without any documentation took me less
trouble than you've evidently had. I still suspect you have a hardware
glitch that just happens to be tickled by Linux but goes unnoticed in
XP. It happens sometimes. :)
