I'd jump in here and say I fully agree with you, but I still consider myself
a beginner. I still think the options afforded us in SuSE make it more
capeable for some applications than other distros. Slackware may take more
advanced users, but that doesn't mean they can't do just as much with SuSE.
I have to say, though, I noticed no difference between slackware and suse in
basic use. The real difference was that Slackware had the most common basic
toys and tools pre-installable, while suse was a distribution of nearly
everything you could possibly want, along with another two cd's worth of
software that I can't think of anybody who'd want ;-)
My $.02 on the matter is that Slackware lacked the pretty graphics, but all
in all was just as easy to use as Mandrake (not tried RH myself), while SuSE
was harder in the fact that you had to know which pieces you did and did not
want installed. I will concede that I never got slack to recognize my PCMCIA
eithernet card, but that was a driver issue, the OS worked fine without any
more thinking required than other distros.
