That's unusual. Either you somehow have it messed up (possibly through
no fault of your own) or you have a hardware problem.. if it's the later
a different dist or window enviroment may or may not help.

OK, so maybe I'll stick with RH/Gnome.  If I can't even get dual monitors to work right, I seriously question the wisdom of trying Debian.  However, I do remember that when I had SuSE 8.2 / KDE installed, I didn't have this problem.  I do need to find a way to fix it though, .... I'm about to get tired of it.  (you guys are too probably  :-)

Tell me .... when you say that RH and SuSE are for beginners, do you say that basically because they will do things for me that in other distro's I would have to know command line, manual config, etc.?

I don't mind learning ... but I need to know WHAT to learn.  For example, I've done everything I've been told to do and know how to do to fix this dual monitor problem, and it's still a problem.  I don't know what the next step would be.

The dual head Matrox card I have is quite common, and should work fine.  It did in SuSE and XP, so I don't think it is the issue.  ?????  Should I just scratch it all and do a complete re-install and try it again?

This is just a wild newbie hunch, but at this point, if I had to say what I thought was the problem, I would probably guess the mgapdesk I downloaded from Matrox has something to do with it.  At any rate, ... I have to wonder, .... how many different things are there that could be causing this.  There surely couldn't be that many, could there???

Also, here's another hint.  Surely this is a clue to something.  Even when Mozilla or whatever is working fine, it WILL NOT load msnbc.com without locking up.  What's up with that???

thanks,
larry
