What about RedHat and Gnome?  That's what I'm using now.  Not without its issues.
For example, this dual monitor thing.  i have now downloaded Mozilla 1.5a, and it's still crashing.  And when the screen saver runs a while, it shuts down X altogether and all the programs that were running too.

I've heard Debian is good, but that someone like me would probably have troubles. 

I don't want to have to use morse code to interact with my computer.  I like the Gnome desktop, but this crashing stuff just drives you back to Windoze.

I read some tech reviews that say Scribus will probably run better on SuSE 8.2, and I'm thinking of trying that out to replace Publisher.  I've heard Quanta might get me off of Dreamweaver ....   and I know the Gimp is there, but I think I read that Photoshop has a linux version.  hmmmmm
