[MLUG] X and Intel i810 chipset

Those who are running XFree86 4 on an Intel i8xx chipset, beware. There seems 
to be a nasty bug that likes this particular combination. It manifests itself 
in a sudden blank screen with a narrow vertical green stripe along the left 
edge of the monitor, increased hard drive activity (perhaps xdm/kdm/gdm 
reloading) and the necessity to reboot the machine because the screen cannot 
be reset in any other way. The logs contain a mysterious message:

Fatal server error:
Active ring not flushed

It looks like other people have this problem, too:

but the triggers vary. For me it happens when I drag a window to a different 
monitor. My configuration is: XFree86 Version 4.3.0 (Red Hat Linux release: 
4.3.0-2) running on Intel Corp. 82810E DC-133 CGC and nVidia Corporation RIVA 
TNT2 Model 64 (rev 21). If anyone comes across a solution for this one, please 
let me know.
