[MLUG] run away fixit??

Hi all,
I am still playing with knoppix on hd install.  Is fine, printer driver
won't install (surprise surprise) and in the course of trying to get newer
cups etc (while I'm at it I'll install this and this and this syndrome) I

1. lost my default urls for Kpackage manager, got some from oregon etc but
does anybody have any handy for debian distros??

2.In K package manager how long should fixit run???  It has been doing it's
thing for a good 10 minutes now, run away or does it have alot to fix/?

3.  I keep getting this message "you must run dpkg --configure -a" when I
try to run apt-get or dselect, I do the -a thing and it stalls, goes to a
and sits there??

4. Despite all this I still like the HD knoppix install, I have network, I
can "see" my other computer, programs open and close.

5.  If I order a couple cds from cheap bytes, what should they be in the way
of slackware and debian or are there good books with those included? I have
a discount deal from online book store.
