First off, how are you inserting the driver? Have you tried insmod, or modprobe? Then you have to make sure that the apropriate driver is being loaded when a eth0 call is being made. It's normaly easier to just load the module upfront from the apropriate rc.d script. In fact, I think you may have to manualy uncomment the line, IIRC. It's been a while since I set one up. Slackware 9 did some auto detection, but then I had to go enable my second nic manualy, and then change the order since I wanted them loaded in the opposite order.
