mySQL is great for what it is - a free and very high performance database,
but it still lacking many of the transaction rollback and stored procedures
that are core requirements for enterprise databases. There are reports too
that mysql struggles with high numbers of concurrent connections whereas
postgresql and others scale better in this respect.
Many of these are being addressed, but for now mysql is a great backend for
your website, but not necessarily for storing terabytes of information in an
enterprise setup.
