If you are using KDE 3.1, you can try the KWIFI Manager to help with the
migration from the campus net to your home net. Currently running Gentoo
on my laptop with a Linksys 2.4GHZ
usb adapter and all is happy on the lappy
(Card from Radio Hack for about $68.00, two months ago)
The card uses the orinoco chipset, I did have to compile support for
this card into the kernel before it would work. As to the other popular
distros I am not sure.
