As fas as I am concerned, whether your address is exposed makes practically no
difference. I've had mailboxes that were never used receive lots of spam soon
after they were created. I've had mailboxes that I openly used every day (and
still do) that don't receive a lot of spam at all. Why is that?
I would first blame all those "friends" that like to forward stuff to everyone
in their address book without using BCC fields. If I pulled up all those
e-mails that I've received over the years, I could easily come up with a
thousand or two of e-mail addresses of people I've never met. There's an
opportunity for a quick buck! :)
