Here's a list of things to check:

Does 'netstat -ap --inet' show running pop3s service?
Did you create an appropriate digital certificate to enable pop3s?
Are you sure you're connecting internally to pop3s and not to pop3?
Does nmap from the outside see the open pop3s port?

Let us know what you find out.
