The only thing I seem to know about tape is that with AIT, the format
(form factor) of the tape will be changing to be more of the "standard"
size for a tape cartridge.

Are you looking to really replace your drive with something large (like
to backup lots of servers?)... Poke at StorageTek.

Ok, I'd asked about SAN, NAS, etc. last time.  Now, it's time to talk
about tape backup systems.  We've always in the past used DDS or the DLT
series tape systems.  I.E. we currently have a DDS-4 tape drive in the
Sun system, and two DLT7000 Autoloaders for the main file servers. 
However, we're going to need more storage space eventually, which means
larger backup systems.

I've been looking online, and I've seen several things.  There's still
DDS technology, but I'm also seeing LTO, AIT, VXA, etc.  Does anyone
have a breakdown and recommendation of a tape auto system?  We're going
to probably need LOTS of storage space.  I like the VXA systems, in that
they seemed pretty reliable and were Linux friendly.  However, what we
really need is something that works and Linux sadly isn't in the
managers high priority list.  Linux software clients are another
matter.  Anyone have any suggestions?  Personal relations?  Etc.  

I'm looking primarily at hardware, but also software commentaries are
welcome.  We've been using arcserve, and it's worked pretty well. 
However, I'd like to find a decent Unix backup software, plus I'm still
not sure if there isn't a better software solution.  I looked at Arkeia,
BRU, and Veritas, but again - recommendations, stories, etc. are
welcome!  What do you all use for high end backup systems?
