That was it! I don't know where my /etc/localtime came from, but it
didn't look like any of the files under /usr/share/zoneinfo even though
there was "GMT-6" line in it. Once I made it into a symlink to
/usr/share/zoneinfo/America/Chicago, things started working. Thanks!
