I'm in a similar position; regular evening meetings wouldn't work for me, 
either.  Mailing lists are great, but sometimes face-to-face is worth 
while, too.  A couple of times I've suggested the possibility of having
some of these over lunch, but that hasn't gotten very far, either.  (Maybe 
next year...)
