Use windows 98 startup disk to boot and use fdisk to erase mbr, (not necessary but good option, u can install it later), for this type : fdisk /MBR . Do this if u wont have a bootable disk. 3. Then you try to format and proceed as usual. If it says the same then try deleting the partition and again add a new partition. You need not worry of grub now , u can always install it again as u kept ur linux boot disk with you. 4. If u windows successfully installs, then boot through ur boot disk to linux, and include following lines in /etc/grub.conf file: title windows rootnoverify(hd0,0) //since u said it is ur first partition chainloader +1. Everything should work. Hi, I have RH 7.3 on a laptop. GRUB is on the MBR. The first physical partition is reserved for Windoze (type 6). Now when I try to install Win, it apparently is unable to write files, and unable to format that partition. Any ideas?
