Okay, do NOT quote me on this. Check it yourself. I know Mandrake does
this, but I'm not sure if Redhat has yet. I remember seeing it in their
7.2 release. If need be, I can walk to the front room and reboot into 7.3
and see if it has it as well.
Red Hat might have SCSI emulation enabled by default. Check /etc/fstab/
and find the line for your CD-ROM. If it says /dev/cdrom or whatever, find
where the symlink is pointing. If it's pointing to something like
/dev/scd0 or the like, you're all set. If it's pointing to /dev/hd??,
you'll need to shut off ATAPI CD-ROM support in your kernel and enable
SCSI emulation. After that, you'll need to reboot with the new kernel.
/var/log/dmesg should have some crap in it about your "new" SCSI device.
Change your /dev/cdrom symlink to this new device and you should be set.
Regards,
Neil
