Denis, the service started without any errors, but when I attempt to access it from Putty, I get an network connection error. This is after stopping the iptables, and the ipchains. any ideas?

Mike

Assuming sshd was installed, go to /etc/init.d and issue this command:

./sshd start

If it starts ok, then it should be able to take requests. You can use
the services editor to make sure it starts when you go into runlevel 3
(or runlevel 5, if you want to burn the memory on graphics). Most
servers seem to prefer to go merrily along in runlevel 3.

If you have a firewall configured, be sure it accepts requests on the
ssh port. Also note that sshd will use the /etc/hosts.allow and
/etc/hosts.deny files, so if there is anything in those you might see if
it reflects what you need.
