ok, i have been fighting this for a long time trying to get it to work.
i have 2 machines on my home network, one is running win98 se and the
other is running red hat 7.3. i have the samba server daemon setup on my
linux box and can use smbclient to connect to the windows machine and
view the files there. but here's the problem: i can see my linux box
from network neighborhood, but when i try to connect to it, it asks for
a password, no username and lists the resource as: \\localhost\ipc$. no
matter what password i use, i am unable to connect. i was using webmin
to setup samba and my smb.conf file is huge so i won't post it here.
however, i tried the following basic smb.conf, which according to the
documentation on the samba website should work:
[global]
workgroup = Home
[homes]
guest ok = no
read only = no
got the same problems with this. tried setting guest ok = yes, same
problem. i've tried a million different things, way too many to list
here but am still having issues. what am i doing wrong? anybody got any
ideas? thanks in advance.
