Hello there....Partition Magic 6 for DOS will do the job neatly....or
try UMB (ultimate boos disk)...these two will easily delete/create
partitions on the fly...

It sounds like he used a dos boot disk with a program called 'HDKILL'.
It is what old NT admins used to get rid NT on boxes.  DELPART is
another dos program that is good for this to just delete partitions.
You should have been able to correct your problem by rerunning LILO but
I am not sure.
