Yes, this is a micro-optimization question, but...

I was thrilled when I stumbled on the fact that merlin.missouri.edu
would accept an ssh connection. (Thrilled because it safeguards
against the almost negligible chance that somebody could do anything
interesting with the stuff I type in when I'm viewing my
circulation record, and because checking merlin was about
the very last uses of a telnet client I had anywhere.)

The only remaining wart is that merlin prompts me for a password
even though it settles for any non-empty one. As best as I can
tell, there's no additional command-line option I can give that
would prevent this, so that the completely trivial shell script:

   #!/bin/tcsh
   ssh -l library merlin.missouri.edu

could just be invoked as "merlin" and blast me right through to
the search screen. Is this correct?

If it is or isn't, is there any handy way to do anything
"expect"-like inside an ssh session?

Thanks.
