Engineering library has a few positions of interest on Xlib. One I used
was reference-type
by authors of the library, and another one was a tutorial-type. Both
were not easy to work with, but that was all I could find. I remember
when I was asking around for recommendations on xt programming people
were just laughing. You may have better luck with GTK. If you find
something good on xlib, let me know - I still haven't given up my old
project.
