Is simply returning/exchanging the modules an option? I had a very
similar problem with 2 new modules on my athlon system and just decided
to quit while I was behind. I've since bought 1 new module from another
source, and it works just fine--autodetected, booted right up, been up
ever since. I never learned the real problem. I'd bet on plain old bad
chips though. Otherwise, can you borrow a known good module or 2 to rule
out a board problem?
