Anyone know how to beep the PC speaker (x86 platform) when there is no
video card (and therefore no console) ?

I have a utility called 'beep,' but it has some limitations. It does not
beep on my no-headed system, because it's unable to open an initial
console, and it doesn't beep on my roommate's computer, because he passes
"console=tty2" to the kernel (so his nice framebuffer logo is all that's
on the screen).
