I wonder how much danger the internet has really created for children.
Let's face it. This is the kind of crap that happens when no one will
stand againts it for fear of being called a pedophile. It will certainly
cause more problems than it will solve. Kids who want to do some sort of
sexy chat with grownups (or whatever it is they are trying to prevent)
will just do it from home instead.

What do those filters do? Do they detect sexual content or something?

They are allowing port 443 traffic -- isn't that encrypted? How do they
filter it?
Why can't the guys use their port 80 ssh idea to get around the firewall?
They have sshd listen on port 80 on their Linux box at home and they run
PuTTY at school and direct it to port 80. I don't think the
administrators have to be stupid to be fooled. Also, if they are just
following rules, maybe they don't mind if people like Igor get around them
to check their e-mail using ssh.
