Hey,
This is just for kicks. How fast does your system compile a kernel?
I just compiled on my friend's Athlon XP 1800+ 1.533 Mhz with 256 MB
RAM. It took 4.5 minutes to compile the 2.4.8 kernel that came with Linux
Mandrake 8.1. No special configs.
Keep in mind that the time I gave is for the "make bzImage" command.
To put that in retrospect, I compiled a 2.2.x kernel that came with Red
Hat one time on a 486 DX/2. It took eight hours.
Anyway, how fast can you compile a kernel?
