Not to sound cheap but the best shell programming reference I've found is
'man bash' and 'info'. Prehaps the book would be quicker but in my
experience you learn a lot just by reading the bash documentation and the
info on all the little string utils etc. Probably more than they could
squeeze into a single book. Of course doing both might be your best
solution. :)
