I've used this book's cousin, "Linux Shells by Example." It is a pretty
decent reference, but the Linux version has an awful lot of filler
material. I haven't seen the UNIX edition, so I can't comment on it. Some
of the examples are a little confusing and vague, but that's mainly due to
some problems with layout and editing.
In any case, it's the book that I used when learning how to really use
bash, awk, and sed. Due to this trio I honestly don't do much perl
scripting at work any more. Shell seems much more fun and UNIXy -- using a
lot of neat little specialized tools together.
