Folks,
I'm having an interesting problem initializing a RAID 1 on a fresh
install of RedHat 7.2. The setup was working with RH 7.1 just fine. Then
the system disk crashed, and it seemed like a convenient time to move up
to RH 7.2 and ext3 filesystem. Naturally, I didn't re-create RAID during
7.2 installation in a futile attempt to save my existing data :) But
now the raid does not initialize during boot-up, because according to RH
init scripts, RAID init happens after root and before all other
filesystems get mounted. The problem is that /sbin/raidstart for some
insane reason is linked dynamically to /usr/lib/libpopt.so.0 which
resides on /usr, which in turn is on a separate partition and is not
mounted yet!
Once all filesystems mount, the RAID starts and works just fine. I could
disable RAID autodetection in /etc/rc.sysinit and bring it up by hand
with a script, but it would defeat the whole purpose of the
autodetection, IMO. In my old setup, /usr was a separate partition as
well. So the question is, does anyone have a working RAID on RH 7.2 that
they could look into and see how this problem is solved? I don't have my
old setup since it's crashed, and I don't want to lose my data by having
RedHat re-create a new RAID for me.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
