Have some faith!  Of course I did all that.  I'm starting to get an idea
of what is wrong - Windows ME does some really weird stuff with its
accounts and it is there that it is failing.  I can connect the other way
(I got someone to try that), so the password encryption is working at
least.  It is a case of getting the correct user/password combination and
I have no idea how to work that out.  W95 is trivial in comparison.
