For those Samba users out there, yet another gotcha (in case you weren't
already aware of this).

More on the MS Client. To use SAMBA for this, there is one other catch.
The user login at the front end of Win9x flavors of machines, has to include
the real userid. Whether it's netware, or just a windows login box the user
has to present their pawprint, and password before the machine hits the
shell. If you have machines that are auto-logging in with a generic
account, this will not work because the win9.x redirector doesn't understand
how to change windows credentials between servers. It's another one of
those weird backward compatibility/lack of forethought lanman 2.2 issues.
Basically windows networking on the 9.x platform can't use multiple
credentials. It assumes for all windows resources your userid will be the
same.
On NT4, 2K, and XP you can login to the front end with whatever you want and
will not have a problem. It will prompt you for different credentials if
needed.
