The thing is there really is no difference in concept between IM and email
except that one includes precense information and is more extensible. I've
yet to see an IM client that really offers an appropiate UI for longer
messages, lists, etc but there is no reason one shouldn't other then
currently they tend to target home use and not business. It probably
wouldn't be to hard to make it so some opensource mail client (Mozilla
comes to mind since there is already a Mozilla Jabber client) can use
Jabber intergrated into it's mail client. I for one would find it very
useful to have presence information intergrated into my mail so that with
one glance I can see if I should bother responding back or wait until I
know that person is online.
