I've been recommending a fix to this (see earlier messages appended
below). I think it will help. Can our listserver software add a line
like this...

Precedence: bulk

...in the mail header? I think it stops autoreplies. In majordomo, you
have to use "-p bulk" as a resend option. (Are we using majordomo?)

Don't most mail programs detect something like "Precedence: Bulk" in a
mail header, and then cancel autoreply? Well, they are supposed to detect
something that indicates the sender is using a distribution list. Is the
MLUG list adding that sort of thing in the header?

Subject: precedence of list messages

When I send a message to the list, I get back autoreplies from a member or
two telling me that they're out of town. I think most mail software will
not autoreply to messages from e-mail lists. I also think that the mail
software looks for "Precedence: bulk" in the header. Is that how they do
it? If so, should our list include "Precedence: bulk" in the header?
