The discussion seemed to be that pine/pico are free to use/change for
yourself but not to modify and redistribute and the fact that they are
active in hunting down people who try to make updated versions based on
the older license that seemed opensource even though they themselves
aren't very active in support.
I heard nothing about them being built from emacs but someone did mention
an emacs program that emulated pine almost exactly.
