I had a simular problem a while ago with Mandrake 8.0 (there is an earlier
thread about it) and it was fixed when I disabled plip0 (whatever the heck
that is). 
The command do that is (at root):
ifconfig plip0 down

Start the network manually (or look when its booting up) to see if it
starts anything else your not sure of, as that is how I figured out plip0.

I have my domain on @Home as the Cnnnnn where n are numbers that I don't
want Google to pick up on. I use static IP (it dual boots with windows),
and have never got dynamic work; maybe this is why.

As was already noted, you don't need ip forwarding if your on a hub and
each box already has its own ip provided by @home.
