Many corporations require a contract that you sign that basically says they own
anything you do while employed with them. Some organizations at the U do outside
work. If you are doing work on the side that is providing the same service that
your organization is doing externally, then you have a possible conflict of interest.
If you develop software at home. Document your time, effort and resources. If the
software is related to what you do at work a case can be made against you. If you
are making lots of money, the probability that it would happen is much greater.
You can't use University resources at all. Not even that free dialup at 36.6k can be
used as a resource. One guy I know would not even use a University email address for
a contact point.
