That's a good question. The way University policy works, you can do just
about anything - ex.: we're non-commercial but we have a bookstore and the
Spectrum - but it often takes a lot of work.
My read on it, though, is that no, there is *currently* no way to legally
write open source software while employed here. There may be some loophole
w.r.t. *when* and *where* you write it (e.g. at home), but I doubt it.

The actual issue, is can software developed while working for the
University be open sourced in any way shape or form? Under the GPL - so
it's not like ProCom where you could make money on it afterwards.
