Subject: RE: [MLUG] Repair for laserprinter
You might want to consider replacing it at this point. I had an LJ III that had
it's formatter board go out. (I know that I was told not to use a switch box
with that printer, but ....) I couldn't get as good a printer for the $150
needed to replace the formatter board, so I spent the $150. About 4 months
later, it quit feeding paper correctly, and I found that the power supply fan
had failed, and the power supply had gotten hot enough that it melted the
adjacent paper transfer roller (not a molten mass, but enough that it wouldn't
feed paper.). At that time, I decided to bite the bullet and get another
printer. Though not cheap at $700, I really like the 2100M postscript printer
that I replaced it with. It's a true 1200dpi, and postscript works great on a
network. The printer does the font rasterization, so there is significantly less
data sent to the printer over the network.
