For the record, from Linux box to Linux box, NFS or AFS are the best
choices.
Samba is decent, but involves all the inherent overhead, insecurities, and
limitations of NetBIOS.
NFS is not very secure, but at least it knows what UIDs, GIDs, and
permissions are.
AFS (Andrew File System) is like NFS, but it's more secure, and it isn't
limited to NFS file systems. It's sort of the WWW of file systems. It lets
you mount all kinds of file servers, including FTP, NFS, and others. Of
course, it's not as well known as NFS, so it'll be harder to set up.
NFS is probably the best way to go in this case, since all you're trying to
do is play MP3's without having to copy them.
