Hmmmm, very mysterious. I just tried this with both regular ps and eps,
and they worked fine, so (at least with the version of gs I'm using) the
command line is correct. You might try the man/info page for gs and see
if the options I've given make sense for your gs - although I hate to
suggest that. From what I remember the man page for gs is not pretty
reading.
You might try an output device of ppm (if your gs supports it) and then
use the various ppmtoXXX tools to convert the .ppm file if gs will create
a .ppm file instead.
Finally - and this seems like a dumb thing to say - but ... you do have
write permission for the directory to which you are writing the file?
