WOO!!  I finally got it to work.. just a LOT of playing with the quotes..

#!/usr/bin/bash1 -f
while read file; do
  mv "$file" "`echo $file | awk -F: '{print $NF}'`"
done < ../songlist
-----------------------------------------------------------

where "songlist" is the output dump of "ls -1 > ../songlist"
