actually it turns out that it's
lock vga=<whatever mode desired>
"video" is not a valid lilo keyword.
but your reply got me inspired to re-read the lilo documentation for the
nth time this month, and i got it working with lock. thanks!
on a side note: last month's experience shows that it's always a good
idea to use
append="mem=<mem size in K>K"
i don't know whether it actually makes the kernel manage memory better,
but it fixes the problem with top memory usage display (i have 384M here
and the "used" memory was never reported properly even with the latest
lilo). this is not apparent from reading the lilo documentation (prolly
need to read boot prompt howto for that), so i thought i'd mention it
here
