LOL, I was so excited about the hardware hacking part that I completely
forgot about the games :)
Ryan is absolutely correct, SEGA is the greatest game publisher of all time.
My 2 favorite systems (and I have pretty much all of them, save for Neo-Geo
and the SEGA Master System - SEGA's first console) are the Dreamcast and the
Saturn. I catch a lot of flak about that Saturn comment, but the fact is
that some of the best gameplay of that era could be found there. NiGHTS was
amazing in its day, and the Panzer Dragoon games were awesome too. I'd love
to have Burning Rangers, but it's pretty expensive these days.
I don't know exactly what it is, but SEGA games seem to have a certain
spirit that others lack. I'm not so sad about their discontinuation of the
DC as a standalone game console, software production is what they've always
been best at anyway. And as a side benefit, we get some cheap hardware to
hack on :)
