It sounds like you did a
make modules
make modules_install
and didn't have a backup of the old modules.  My guess is that it's trying
to load a module that doesn't exist, or hasn't been compiled into the
kernal.  I'm not sure quite how the pcmcia stuff works though.  It could
quite likely be a problem with that instead of or in addition to the modules
stuff.  Just a thought.
