You're absolutely right; there is no need for vi mode at all. I just
happen to know (and like) vi better, and thought I would answer the
question in a somewhat humorous way, and hopefully without starting a
vi/emacs flamewar in the process...
If you happen to know the emacs meta/command/psychoanalyze keystrokes to
do the same thing, then please post them...
