It gets worse. Like Nimrod, I thought I had an "olden days" story about
my first hard drive: In late 1986 or early 1987 I paid about $400 for a
30 MB hard drive. It was really a 20 MB drive with an RLL controller that
allowed me to format to 30 MB. I told an old professor about it a few
years ago and he told me that in 1967 they managed to convince the
university (U of Wisconsin, Madison) to shell out the money for a hard
drive for their massive computer. The hard drive cost $66,000 and held
only 2 MB. That's the best "olden days" hard drive story I know, but I'd
like to hear more.
