It definately depends on various factors. I have one computer at home that has
an Addtron 10/100 Mbps network card that I've never been able to get to work
with Win95, yet had no problems with NT, OS/2, and Linux. I have another machine
that has been an absolute PIA to get X-windows configured (I had it done once,
but didn't save XF86Config, and I'm still regretting that, as I haven't been
able to get it reconfigured.).
