For the sake of technology:

The ipx_interface command is what you wan to use to make sure you have your
Ethernet card bound only to the appropriate frame types.

If there are more frame types than the four I mentioned, I am unaware of
them, but as far as I know, "802.4" is the IEEE Token Bus network, which is
sort of a cross between Ethernet and Token Ring. Technically, it's just a
different frame type on an Ethernet-like bus topology, but I doubt normal
Ethernet cards can use it. Feel free to prove me wrong, however. I know
little about NetWare 5.x.

If you have your card bound to only one frame type and you're still getting
net number collisions, you'll have to sniff the wire with software smart
enough to let you filter on a particular value at a particular offset in the
Ethernet frame. That will let you track down the machine(s) using the same
frame type as you but the wrong network number. But basically, a packet
trace is the only way to find it.

On campus:

We are trying to eliminate IPX altogether, and have never supported it in
the Res Halls (aside from the labs). The best way to go by far is to try to
find an IP way to do things. I realize it's probably a pain, but IPX is
going to go away sooner or later, so it's an investment, not a waste of
time.
