Sorry for the rant, but I'm not fond of that usage.

There is a way to bind only the desired frame type to the interface.
ipx_interface add device frame_type
replacing device with eth0 or whatever network device you are using and
frame_type with ethernetII or 802.3 or 802.2 whichever you want.
